Population problem: a critical analysis of theories and approaches [in Bangladesh]
1989
Ali, M.H.
In view of the world wide problem of population growth, a recapitulation of ideas and thoughts of the prominent philosophers and thinkers in this subject matter area and their comparative analyses appear to be an urgent need. The present paper intended to focus on the gravity of the population problem, particularly in the developing countries, in terms of growth rates, food deficiency and health problems. The major emphasis has been put on the thinking of and approaches to population problem by different school of thoughts along with their critical analyses. Attempts have also been made to identify their points of agreement and disagreement on the future of the population control programmes. The paper, however, tilted toward supporting the views of the optimists in a limited way. It inclined to say that the recent combined efforts of the concerned countries, international agencies and voluntary organizations are sufficient indicators in favour of tackling the population problem successfully in the future.
