Effect of varieties, forecrops and fertilizing on properties of spring barley seed

Field polyfactorial trials were performed to study, among other facts, the effects of fertilizing, forecrops, varieties and the growing year on seed properties in spring barley, as 1000-kernel weight, the proportion of grain above a sieve 2.5 mm, germinability and the proportion of seed from the grain yield. Trials has been established in the maize-growing regions in 1986-1988. Four-factorial analysis served as a base for calculations to determine the variability of different properties of the seed caused by factors under study. The germination capacity was the most influenced by the year - 43.9 per cent, followed by variety - 27.1 per cent, forecrops - 15.5 per cent and fertilizing - 13.4 per cent on an average for three years. The field emergence rate is influenced by the seed viability in connection with weather conditions in the period of sowing and emerging. 1000-kernel weight varied the most according to the variety - 51.9 per cent, the year - 28.5 per cent, fertilizing - 10.7 per cent and the forecrop 8.9 per cent. By separating of grain above the sieve (2.5 mm average of meshes of sieve) after the forecrop winter wheat 69.9 per cent of grain was left, after maize for silage - 58.0 per cent. The variability was caused by varieties - 43.0 per cent, years - 29.5 per cent, forecrops - 17.8 per cent and nutrition - 9.6 per cent. The seed yield was balanced after both forecrops.
