Pilot trials were performed to study the effect of exact sowing on the number of seedlings from emergence to harvest, on the size of seedlings and the level of losses caused by harvest. The storing losses were investigated in seedlings of individual categories stored in the seedling room. The sowing used now in the distance of 40 mm in 0.45 m rows brings the considerable reduction of plants in the growing season and leads to unbalanced size of harvested beet-root seedlings. To increase th coefficient of seedlings : seed crops for the ratio 1:3 to 4 it will be necessary to adjust the row spacing in such a way that usable area per plant was close to square. Furthermore, it will be necessary to use also smaller seedlings which can be better stored. The losses may be decreased below 10 per cent when keeping the storing regime in the storage rooms.
