The replacement possibilities of soybean grits were investigated in two experiments. In the first the grits were replaced with soybeans either of full value extracted, or flaked, and in the second with soybeans heat-treated by hydrotermic procedures. The effect of Chlorella /algae/ feeding was also studied. It increased egg weight and diminished (by nearly 3 o/o) feed consumption per egg. Chlorella meal was mixed in the feed in 1 and 2 o/o in ratio. The colour of the yolk was determined before treatment, at 5-10 days after its beginning and after the end of it on a colour scale of 12 stages. The colouring matter being present in Chlorella meal appeared in the yolk of egg samples taken between 1-10 days following treatment giving a darker shade to the yolk. The smaller Chlorella dose resulted in a more pronounced colouring. The 2 o/o dose increased the egg yolk colour non-linearily. Behind this phenomenon lies the absorption or integration of worse efficiency of the colouring matter's greater dose.
