Necessity to increase exact measuring in domestic big progeny tests [Hungary]

The examined population consisted of 4528 pigs at the Hungarian central big progeny test in 1987. They represented 20 breeds, breed constructions and hybrid lines. The greatest population comprised the Hungarian Yorkshire /1473 individuals/, followed by the Hungarian Landrace /1299 individuals/, then the Estonian pig /353 individuals/. The number of the other examined breeds did not surpass 200 individuals. The aim of the investigation was to direct the attention to those failure sources which can distort the progeny test results. Thus, the parameters necessary to calculate body fat ratio and the distribution circumstances of the lard thickness dimensions were emphasized. The inadmissible rounding practices were rendered visible on tables and graphs. The instrumental state of supply of the butcheries at the progeny testing stations must be improved and technologically developed to avoid further measuring inaccuracies.
