A reassessment of the 'traditional' in Caribbean small-scale agriculture

The time has come for a reappraisal of traditional small scale agriculture in the Caribbean, and throughout the Third World. In face of an increasing awareness of the major limitations of industrialized agriculture, and of so-called modernization programmes in small-scale agriculture, it is essential that the characteristics of small-scale agriculture be reassessed. The paper proposes a balance between unabated modernization, on the one hand, and support for the best of the traditional in the Caribbean small-scale farming, on the other.
