Training of manpower for certain sectors of a country's economy should be seen as a means of increasing the efficient use of resources and output of the sector. Training for irrigation could also be considered as a technological input which would broaden the resource base of a country. The paper looks into the irrigation sector in Kenya and the manpower requirements and the consequent irrigation training needs. Presents a discussion on irrigation planning and irrigation manpower planning with a conclusion that more research is required in the field of irrigation in Kenya.
