Evaluation for potato late blight (Phytopthora infestans Mont de Bary) resistance is a continuing activity in the Philippine highlands to come up with a variety that is both high yielding and resistant. Three sets of various clones with late blight resistance and one set of advanced clones and cultivars were evaluated for yield, and resistance to late blight. A total of 9 promising clones were identified namely: 381403.16 (.833 x Bulk Mex), 382150.5 (377934.5 x Bulk Mex), 382176.27 (380098.3 x Bulk Mex), 381403.19 (.833 x Bulk Mex), 384321.35 (380479.15 x BK 3), 384331.10 (B-33 x Bk LB. 79.80), 384321.19 (380479.15 x Bk 3), 384298.63 (380387.3 x Bk LAT) and 384321.15 (380479.15 x Bk 3). The first four were newly identified clones while the next five were old clones which were previously evaluated. These clones are highly to moderately susceptible to late blight. The four new clones have an average yield ranging from 0.82 to 2.28 kg/plant. The five old clones have yields ranging from 17.75 to 22.15 t/ha. In addition, out of 96 clones evaluated which were previously selected from a second cycle of recurrent selection 25 clones were selected. All of these clones showed resistance to late blight until 87 days after planting. Yield range from 0.20 to 2.90 kg/plant. Among the advanced clones and cultivars, six best clones were identified namely CEW 69.1, Yunggay, 4.1 DI, CFM 69.1, Puebla and Capiro. These clones are highly resistant to moderately susceptible to late blight and have yields ranging from 11.4 to 22.6 t/ha. All these sets of germplasm will be used for further evaluation. Four clones with both moderate resistance to late blight and cyst nematode and with good yield potential were selected from the late blight and cyst nematode study.
