Three hundred broiler chicks were randomly distributed into six treatment groups replicated five times. Each replicate consisted of ten birds. Experimental treatments used were as follows: 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% QPM [quality protein maize] as feed replacer for 60% yellow corn in broiler rations. Recommended care and management practices employed were the same in all treatments. The project was conducted in three batches involving 900 birds. Results showed that QPM at 60% of the total ration for broilers as a source of energy and as a substitute source of protein can reduce the use of imported soybean oil meal. Sixty per cent QPM in broiler rations showed no adverse effect on the growth performance and slaughter characteristics of birds. Broiler rations containing 60% QPM of the total ration is cheaper by P0.72 per kg gain in weight or an ROI [return on investment] of 24.32% which is 4.61% higher than those birds fed with 60% yellow corn in the total ration.
