Periparturient dairy cow feeding

An experiment on 21 multiparae and 19 primaparae cows during the dry period and the first 100 days lactation was carried out. The author concluded that roughages are too poor in dry matter and energy content to cover the requirements of high yielding cows in the first period after calving and that this diet should be supplemented by high amounts of concentrates
