Effect of fertilization on soil humus

On the basis of analyses of soil samples taken from plough layer, the influence of long-term mineral and organic fertilization on the properties of soil humus and humic acids has been examined. It was found, that fertilization modified both the quantity and the quality of soil humus. Humic acids from manured plots as compared to those from soils under mineral fertilization were characterized by higher aliphaticity and higher susceptibility to chemical oxidation. Humic acids extracted from permanently non-fertilized soils were most and most resistant to oxidation. Manuring results the increase in humus content in soils, mineral fertilization stabilizes its level. Humus from manured soils was characterized by higher values of humic acid carbon to fulvic acids carbon ratio
