Influence of treating the forest with potato sewage on the life of ungulates

Szukiel, E. | Lewandowski, Z. (Instytut Badawczy Lesnictwa, Warszawa (Poland))
In the years 1986-88, one made observations on the migration and concentration of game on territory irrigated with potato sewage and on control territory. Results of the studies proved that wild ungulates (Capreolus capreolus, Dama dama, Cervus elaphus, Sus serofa) did not change the places of living inclusive of procreation places in consequence of the irrigation. An eutrophication of the game biotopes took place under the influence of the irrigation. The distribution and concentration of particular species of game were different and changed in individual years and seasons of the year in areas irrigated with sewage and in control areas. One discussed the causes of these differencies and the usefulness of the applied pellet-group-count technique for studies on the migration and concentration of wild hoofed animals when the health condition of forests in Central Europe gets worse
