Women in Agriculture
1991
Kiyingi, S.N. (Ministry of Agriculture, Entebbe (Uganda))
Women usually do not belong to themselves and are chattels of their fathers, brothers, husbands and sons. Women constitute half of the worlds' population and are the greatest human resource. They perform two thirds of the worlds working hours and are the backbone of rural subsistence, economy, providing a greater percentage of labour force in agriculture particularly in food production. Women face many constraints such as access to land, migration of men to town, lack of access to: credit, appropriate technology and research extension advice. Policy makers have to address themselves to the promotion of women in agriculture, rural projects and programmes.
