On-farm trials in the context of root crops were developed with the aim of popularising and encouraging the adoption among farmers of the current relevantly developed production technologies as interventions to the identified production constraints. The goal was to reduce the yield gap between small scale farmers and experimental stations. Two sites, Molo and Mukuyu in Tororo District (Uganda) were selected. Fields were ox-ploughed and re-ploughed and divided into two equal parts, one for the farmers' practice and the other for verification trial. Different spacings of 2 m by 2 m, 0.75 m by 0.75 m, 1 m by 1 m and 1.5 m by 1.5 m were used. The 1 m by 1 m spacing performed very well and was adopted by farmers. Also optimum number of cuttings of sweet potato vines was experimented on 3 vine cuttings per mound planted equidistant out yielded local management. Farmers adopted this technology.
