Serum proteins in bovine follicular fluid and ovarian cyst fluid

The average protein concentration in ovarian cyst fluid was 58,36+-9,1 g/l, which was 94% of the mean follicular fluid protein level and 75% of the mean serum protein level. The lower protein concentration in follicular fluid could be attributed mainly to the absence of immunoglobulin M (lgM) and alpha 2M. The nearly complete lack of lgM and alpha2M in follicular fluid and their presence in ovarian cyst fluid was indicated by electrophoresis, immunoelectrophoresis and Sephadex G-200 chromatography. Although macromolecules such as lgM and alpha2M were present, the lower protein concentration in ovarian cyst fluids could be explained by the high ovarian cyst volume (10-20 ml). The results interpreted in the study showed that transmission of plasma proteins from blood to ovarian follicular fluid was in inverse proportion to their molecular weight. On the cystic follicles was higher, indicating a damaged "blood-follicle" barrier. Nevertheless, the proteins of ovarian cyst fluids never became exactly counterbalanced by blood serum proteins.
