Performance of some promising strains of soybean and groundnut under field condition [Bangladesh]
1991
Hoque, M.S. | Hashem, M.A.
Two field experiments - one with soybean and the other with groundnut were carried out at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) farm during 1989-90 rabi season. The experiments were designed mainly for screening and selection of suitable Rhizobium strains for inoculum production in pilot scale. Treatment effects were judged by recording various crop parameters such as nodule number, nodule weight, root dry matter during growth stage of the crops and the yield at maturity. Marked beneficial effects of Rhizobium inoculation were observed in both the cases of soybean and groundnut experiments. Among the strains used for soybean, BAU 107 appeared to be the best strain although other strains used in the study were also promising. In case of groundnut, BAU 700 ranked top in its contribution on growth and yield of the crop. The performance of other strains was also encouraging on the growth and yield of groundnut.
