Effect of graduated rations of oat haylage on the production of beef

Partial replacement of maize silage by oat haylage was studied in a 407-day feeding experiment. Live weight per 1 bullock increased by 368,70 kg in group A; 377,40 kg in group B and 367,1 kg in group C. The average live weight gain per head and day was 905, 930 and 897 g in groups, A, B, C, respectively. The highest daily weight gain per head, 390 g, was recorded in group B in which 40 percent of the roughage ration was represented by oat haylage. Nutrient consumption per 1 kg of live weight gain proves efficiency of feed conversion. In group A the consumption levels per kg of gain were 8,34 kg dry matter, 773 g crude protein and 4,93 starch units, in group B 7,36 kg DM, 695 g CP and 4,37 SU, and in group C 7,87 kg DM, 757 g CP and 4,56 SU. The highest efficiency of consumed nutrients of the feed ration was recorded in group B in which 40 percent of the roughage in the ration was represented by oat haylage. The live weight gains mentioned above were obtained at favourable levels of consumption of concentrates. These averaged 1640-1700 g per 1 kg of live weight gain.
