The nickel degree of supply was investigated among marker plants cultivated on soils of different geologic origin, and among animals kept there, similarly to the Zn- Cu- Mn- and Mo-degree of supply investigations. About 3500 Ni-determinations were carried out. The Ni-content of the marker plants decreased parallel to growth, as did the other microelement contents. The Ni-content of the plants is partly species-specific. The Ni-content of different plant species cultivated on the same spot, however, varies greatly. The Ni-content of the domestic plant populations far surpasses that of the neighbouring countries. The Ni-content of the single whole plants or their seeds can increase by 50-470 o/o because of the industrial pollution. The development of the degree of nickel supply of animals and the content of single organs are best reflected in due course by the rib bones, liver and kidneys. After these organs, the testicles also indicate the degree of Ni-supply, which in the single organs surpasses the mid-European values by 47-74, 30-70 and 49-219 o/o, resp.
