Selection of the form and size of the farm in the transforming agriculture

The size of agricultural units is determined by 6 factor groups: "economics of scale", framework conditions determined by law, market effects, management level, natural factors, and factors connected with raising capital and credit. Because of the changed political, legal and economic conditions, these factors will determine in future the selection of the family farm, the co-operative farm established by voluntary association of several farmers, or farming in the form of an economic society (enterprise). This selection may be made by considering the efficiency advantage of the individual undertaking forms, the available or necessary capital, the state preference connected with the various forms, and the deciding subjective preferences. In the present transitional period, in addition to the above, the utilization of the existing buildings and the investment-requirements of the establishment of new ones should still be considered of major importance. In the case of the selection of family farming, the observance of the acceptable sectoral and operational sizes is also important.
