The chloride ion was determined in model solutions and liquid foods (soft drinks, mineral waters, tap water, milk, beer, wine, champagne and honey). Electrode OP-Cl-0711P was used for the determination and OP-0830P type electrode for comparison. The determination was carried out in pH 5 acetate buffer. The total ion strength was set with 0.2 mol per dm3 potassium nitrate solution. The calibration curve is a straight line up to 0.000010 mol per cm3 chloride ion concentration. The accuracy of chloride determination and reproducibility in the chloride ion concentration range from 0.00020 to 0.000010 mol per dm3, was studied by the calibration, addition and modified Gran evaluation methods. These three methods are suitable for use up to 0.00004 mol per dm3 concentration. Up to 0.000010 mol per dm3 concentration only the modified Gran technique is adequate. According to the regression analysis of results measured, the three methods are in good agreement.
