Plants from in vitro cultures of the vine variety Narancsizu were decapitated and the cut surface was infected with the octopin-containing strains of the 3rd biotype of Agrobacterium tumefaciens. Sterile calli were developed from the tumours using carbencillin, which exhibited a growth of 40-180 times in the course of 4 weeks on hormone-free medium, compared to the 10-40 times growth of primary calli induced with hormones. Intensively dividing cell suspensions can be obtained from the callus lines. The callus and cell lines proved to be excellent initial material for physiological and biochemical analyses.
