Effects of fertilizer and manure on soybean growth, yield components and yield in upland areas of Garut

An experiment of N fertilizer and manure on soybean was conducted in Garut in wet season of 1987/88. The experimental design was randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The treatments consisted of factorial combination between 2 rates of manure (0 and 20 t/ha) and 5 rates of N fertilizers (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N/ha). Galunggung variety was planted with plant spacing of 40 cm x 10 cm, 2 plants/hill. Results of the experiment showed that N fertilizer increased plant growth significantly. Number of filled pod increased siginificantly by N fertilizer, but number of seed/pod and seed weight was not affected by N fertilizer. Number of branch and grain yield were affected by the interaction between N fertilizer and manure. When manure was not applied to the soil, number of branch and grain yield increased significantly by increasing N fertilizer. The maximum grain yield was obtained from 280 kg N/ha, although adding N fertilizer over 100 kg/ha did not increase grain yield significantly. On the other hand, when manure was applied at 20 t/ha, N fertilizer did not increase number of branches grain yield. Manure only increased plant dry weight, total N, nodule number, number of filled pod and grain yield. The other parameters were not affected by manure.
