Responses of two peanut varieties to different intensities of solar radiation

An experiment was carried out at Cikeumeuh Experimental Farm from February to May 1989. Design of the experiment was a split plot design with 3 replications. Peanut varieties Banteng and Pelanduk were shaded with 1 layer of mosquito screen, with corn plants at spacing of 100 cm x 10 cm and without shading. The fertilizer rates were 50, 100 and 100 kg/ha for Urea, TSP and KCl, respectively. The peanut seeds dibbled at spacing of 40 cm x 10 cm. Responses of Banteng and Pelanduk varieties to different intensities of solar radiation were similar. Mosquito screen reduced intensity of solar radiation by 11 percent, affected growth, yield component and reduced yield by 16 percent. Corn plant shading, reduced intensity of solar radiation about 13 percent, affected growth, yield component and reduced yield by 64 percent. It also reduced P content in seed by 30 percent.
