Effect of diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP) addition into field latex of high magnesium content on the quality of concentrated latex produced

The natural ratio of phosphate-magnesium is an important factor in determining the latex stability. The low ratio of phosphate-magnesium in ammoniated latex indicates an excess of magnesium ions. The excess of magnesium ions decreases rapidly the latex quality, in particular the latex stability and VFA number, although the latex has been sufficiently preserved by ammonia. In the present investigation, diammonium hydrogen phosphate (DAP) has been used to reduce magnesium content of field latex. Excessive addition of DAP has, however, been found to reduce the quality of concentrated latex produced. Concentrated latex of the best quality has been produced by addition of equal mole DAP to magnesium ions of the original field latex.
