One hundred forty-four accessions of mungbean from the National Plant Genetic Resources Laboratory, Institute of Plant Breeding, College of Agriculture, University of the Philippines Los Banos were evaluated for eight quantitative traits during the 1983-84 dry season at UPLB post-rice cropping conditions. Highly significant positive correlations were observed between seed yield and other traits such as seedling vigor, number of clusters/plant, number of pods/plant, number of seed/pod, number of branches/plant and 100 seed weight. However, no correlation existed between seed yield and plant height. Path coefficient analysis showed that seedlings vigor, plant height, number of seeds/pod, number of clusters/plant, number of branches/plant and 100 seed weight had positive and direct effect. On the other hand, the number of pods/plant had negative direct effects. Twenty-seven accessions which yielded 1-1.53 t/ha were considered as high yielders. Likewise, thirty-nine accessions with seedling vigor index score of 103 were selected for their rapid seedling growth traits under post-rice growing conditions. Many high yielding accessions possessed the rapid seedling growth trait.
