Production of shikonin derivates by root, callus and suspension cultures of Lithospermum arvense and Alkanna tinctoria

Root, callus and suspension cultures of L. arvense and A. tinctoria were obtained. All the above mentioned cultures were able to produce shikonin derivates. The qualitative composition of the shikonin derivates in callus and suspension cultures was similar to that of root culture, but it differed quantitatively. Total content of shikonin compounds under the same culture conditions was higher in A. tinctoria than in L. arvense
