Kmiec, M. (University of Agriculture, Szczecin (Poland). Chair of Genetics and Breeding Methods)
The objective of the presented research was to determine transferrin polymorphism and to find association between transferrin polymorphism and some biochemical characters of blood in the population of long-wool sheep lambs. Dematocrit index, the level of hemoglobin, crude protein, iron, total iron-binding capacity and the degree of transferrin saturation with iron have been estimated. Significant differences have been found in the level of crude protein between animals with different transferrin phenotypes. Animals with a homozygous transferrin phenotype proved a significantly higher hemoglobin content in the blood
