Effect of diet containing barley grain and fat and DL-methionine supplements on broiler chickens

Experiment was carried out with 780 Astra B broiler chickens divided into 12 experimental group. Over the first 49 days of life the chickens were given the diets including 35 to 55 percent grain barley, at crude protein content 20-22 percent (starter) and 16-18 percent (finisher); diets were differentiated by supplement of horse fat (0, 4 and 8 percent) and DL-methionine (0 or 0.55 percent). Control group was fed on soybean/maize feed mixture at 18-22 percent crude protein content. Chickens on fattened diets completed with DL-methionine were of significantly higher body weight both, at 28th and 49th day of life. They achieved also better carcass dissection indices although there were no significant differences in dressing percentage among the groups
