Biological recultivation of post-mining soil in brown coal mine "Konin"
1991
Gilewska, M.
Two main concepts a biological recultivation of post mining soils are described. The first concept is following: the main aim is to initiate soil formation process with pioneer plant cover consisting of white sweetclover (Melilotus albus Med.), Robinia pseudoacacia (L.), Alnus glutinosa (L.), Alnus incana (L.) and some other plant and bush species. In this concept production of economically useful biomass is a secondary issue. Biological activation and preparation of the soil for agricultural production takes from 6 to 15 years. The second system assumes: improvement of the chemical soil properties; improvement of the physical soil properties; a pioneering plant can be any plant species. This concept facilitates simultaneous realization of the two aims: production and economically useful biomass and productive soil formation. During the ten years period of agricultural recultivation a humus layer 20-25-30 cm thick is formed, rich in mineral components
