Effect of irrigation schedules, phosphorus levels and phosphate-solubilizing organisms on lentil. III. Nodulation [Lens culinaris]

In a study conducted on the effect of irrigation, phosphorus, and phosphate-solubilizing organisms on nodulation of lentil, one irrigation at branching produced a greater number of effective and total nodules/plant than no irrigation control. This irrigation treatment also gave higher nodule dry weight/plant, bacteroid count, and leghaemoglobin content than control. Phosphorus application had a beneficial effect on all these parameters. Dry weight of nodules/plant, bacteroid count, and leghaemoglobin content increased significantly with each increase in phosphorus application (P2O5) rates up to 60 kg/ha, while effective and total number of nodules/plant increased with increasing P2O5 rates up to 40 kg/ha.
