In a trial on seeds of two microsperma varieties (K-75 and K-333) of lentil subjected to 5 Kr, 10 Kr of gamma rays and/or 0.0125 of EMS, the varieties responded similarly to the mutagenic treatments regarding percentage of M2 families segregating for mutants, but differed regarding mutants per thousand M2 plants. Combined mutagenic treatments induced a higher percentage of families segregating for mutants than respective individual application of either mutagen in both varieties, but the treatments did not show exact additive effects of the physical and chemical mutagens. In var K-333 individual application of EMS induced a higher number of mutants per thousand M2 plants than either the gamma ray treatments individually or the combined treatments. The same held true for variety K-75, except that the number of mutants in combined treatments at the highest dose of irradiation exceeded that in the EMS treatment. Various chlorophyll, vital, and sterile mutants in the present study have been described
