Potential forage yield and nutritive value of triticale x legume mixtures were studied during two years at Vila Real (northeastern Portugal). Three 6x-triticale advanced lines from the UTAD triticale breeding program and a cultivar of hairy vetch as legume, were used. A oat x hairy vetch mixture was used as tester. In the two year average, the highest dry matter production was obtained with one of the triticale lines x hairy vetch mixture (8233.7 kg.ha-1 ) and the lowest with the oat x hairy vetch mixture (6115.8 kg.ha- 1). The oat-legume mixture showed the highest in vitro organic matter digestibility (IVOMD) (58.3 percent). In the triticale x hairy vetch mixture, the IVOMD ranged from 51.2 to 56.4 percent. The crude protein content was higher in the oat x legume mixture (11.4 percent). In conclusion, triticale seems to be an interesting cereal to mixture with hairy vetch for forage production
