Yield and profit of triticale, wheat and barley cultivars sown under similar conditions

An experiment was carried out in order to compare the profitability of autumn sown triticale after winter wheat or sugar beet, when the cereal replaces wheat and barley in the crop rotation. During four seasons four triticale cultivars were compared to three wheat (fodder or bakery) and three barley cultivars (fodder or brewery) with different production inputs (nitrogen fertilizer, fungicide, growth regulator). Income per hectare and cost price per kilogram dry matter were calculated on the basis of yield, nitrogen content, specific weight and grain caliber. Climatic conditions and the choice of variety were the main factors influencing grain yield and grain chemical composition and, therefore, financial results. Yields averaged 6000, 6500 and 7000 kg dry matter for barley, triticale and wheat, respectively. The cost price of one kilogram barley and one kilogram wheat represented 105 and 92 percent, respectively, of the cost price of triticale, while the profit per hectare of barley and wheat was 59 and 197 percent, respectively, of that of triticale
