In 1987, a self-propelled seeder for experimental plots was adapted at the National Wheat Research Center (CNPT), EMBRAPA, to work under no-till conditions. A pneumatic downpressure system was used to transfer vertical force to furrow openers needed for residue cutting and furrow opening. This system was designed to ensure sufficient vertical oscillation to follow soil surface roughness. The furrow opener used was an offset double disc system. The vertical penetration force was adjusted through a manual pressure regulator valve according to the soil penetration resistance. This seeder has been successfully used since 1987 for no-tillage triticale experimental seeding plots
