Development of aneuploid series in hexaploid triticale

Sets of single D(A), D(B) and D(R) substitution lines are being developed for Wolski's Presto, CIMMYT's Rhino and a primary line Langdon-2a. In Presto and Rhino, the D(A) and D(B) substitutions are transferred from D(A)- and D(B)- substituted triticales developed earlier; 6th backcross in Rhino and 5th in Presto were made for most combinations. Joppa's set of D(A)- and D(B)- substituted Langdon durums was crossed to rye inbred 2a and a set of substitution lines was produced D(R) substitutions in all three backgrounds are selected from hybrids with hexaploid wheat or produced by monosomic shift. On the basis of the D(A), D(B) and D(R) substitutions, sets of monosomics for the three triticales are being developed. The set of double ditelosomics of Langdon was crossed to rye inbred 2a and a complete set of 14 triticales double ditelosomic for wheat chromosomes was produced. Those are being converted into ditelosomic lines. Thirteen rye telosomes have been identified among various Langdon-2a lines and are being stabilized as ditelosomics and double ditelosomics. A set of double substituted lines [1D(1A) + 5D(5B), 2D(sA) + 5D(5B), etc.] is being developed in Rhino. To transfer a fragment of 1DL with GluD1 gene to chromosome 1R of triticale, homoeologous pairing was induced in a 5D(5B) -substituted line between the long arms of 1DL in a centric break-fusion translocation 1RS.1DL and complete 1R, and recombinant chromosomes were recovered. Homoelogous pairing in hexaploid triticale appears to be more frequent than in wheat
