Effect of plant nutrients on yield of peanuts grown on sandy soil of Kula Ronghai [Thailand]

Peanut experiment was conducted at the Land Development Center, Amphoe Suwannaphum, Changwat Roi-Et during May to September 1986. NPK fertilizer in combination with secondary and micronutrients were applied in the treatments accordingly in order to study the nutrient requirement of peanuts grown on sandy soil of Tung Kula Ronghai. A composite soil sample was taken prior to the experiment. The chemical analyses were as followed: pH 5.6, 0.49 % OM, 0.053 % total P, 5 ppm Bray II-P, 8 ppm exch. K, 55 ppm exch. Ca, 50 ppm exch. Mg. The total micronutrient contents in soil were 26.47 ppm Cu, 5.4 ppm Zn, 259.71 ppm Mn, and 0.225 % Fe. The result showed that peanut responded markedly to NPK with gypsum in which the pod yield was 38 % over NPK treatment. Without Ca application, peanut yield declined 7 % as compared to NPK+Ca treatment. Shelling percentage of peanut in the Ca omitted treatment was reduced to 62.07 % as compared to 71.63 % in the Ca supplied one. The application of city compost with and without NPK gave 80 % and 49 % higher peanut yield respectively than NPK treatment. In conclusion, NPK fertilizers should be applied with compost and gypsum to maintain satisfactory yield of peanut grown in Tha Tum soil at Tung Kula Ronghai. The problem of shrivelled seed could also be solved.
