Use of copper sulphate to control algae in raw water of Bangphra water treatment plant [Chonburi Province, Thailand]

Alleviate the problems caused by high raw water concentration of algae, raw water treatment with copper sulphate is a possible method that can be employed to reduce algae in the raw water. Study on the use of copper sulphate to control algae in raw water had been conducted in laboratory. Regarding the acute toxicity test of copper sulphate to guppy in dechlorinated tab water and reconstituted soft water. The values of 96h-LC50 were 0.15 and 0.14 mg./ICU. respectively. Based on the results of this study, use of copper sulphate to control algae in raw water of the Bangphra water treatment plant is appropriate with the optimum concentration of 0.1 mg./ICU, which is safe for domestic use as drinking water but harmful to aquarium fish.
