Morphological and some autecological studies on the genus Davallia
1989

Results of investigation showed that there were two species of ferns, Davallia denticulata (Burm.f.) Mett. ex Kulm and D. solida (forst.) Sw., that grow epiphytically but only D. denticulata, can be grown in shade and sunlight conditions. Whether grown in the shade or sunlight conditions, these two ferns occupied a similar external structure and occupied the same internal structure. Population density and size of fern fronds varied due to environmental conditions, such as, soil moisture content, relative humidity, light intensity and soil nutrients. Number of fronds increased in rainy season and decreased at time between late cool and the beginning of dry season. Frond of shade ferns was biggest in the size but least in the number. Frond of sunlight exposed ferns was smaller in size but much more in number. However, though frond of epiphytic ferns was the smallest but their number was not significant to those grown in sunlight.
