Introduction of chick rearing unit among the rural household of Bangladesh

A study was conducted for 8 (eight) weeks during June and July, 1990 with three different breeds (Fayoumi, White Leghorn and Australorp) of chicks to compare their performances and profit under farmers condition at Farming Systems Research site, Janokinathpur, Rangpur. The final average body weight of Fayoumi, White Leghorn and Australorp was 392.76, 376.75 and 363.57 g per chick and the obtained highest weekly body weight gain was 66.28, 62.81 and 58.51 g per chick respectively at 8th week of age. The mortality of the chicks was 14.8% for Fayoumi, 17.6% for white Leghorn and 16.8% for Australorp. The average cost of production per chick was Tk. 17.32 and net profit per chick was Tk. 5.31 only.
