Development of teaching aids and dissemination of information on weaning practice, home-made weaning foods, infant and child care to rural mothers [Bangladesh]

In order to improve the nutritional status of the children, knowledge on home-made weaning foods, correct weaning practices and other aspects of child care were disseminated to the mothers of a village. As a means of communication, two illustrated manuals entitled 'Shishu parichariya (Child care) and Ghore-Tairi-Shishu-Khadda (Home-made weaning foods)' were developed. Apart from these, messages on correct weaning practices and child care were displayed in different parts of the village. This paper gives an account of these manuals and other teaching materials used in the programme. Methods used for the dissemination of information to the mothers are also described.
