1993
Auda M, Laura Cristina
This trial was carried out in Coihueco, 20 km northeast of the city of Chillan in order to evaluate the performance of five rabbiteye blueberry varieties (Vaccinium ashei, R) under local soil and climatic conditions. A 3 ha rabbiteye-blueberry planting, established in September 1990 was chosen which included the following varieties: Bonita, Brightwell, Tifblue, Climax and Premier. Spacing between plants was 3.5 by 1.8 meters. The experimental design used was a randomized block. To compare the mean production for plant all the varieties, the Duncan test was used. The parameters evaluated were: 1. Vegetative growth: - Date of spring bud brake; - Date of emergence of major canes; - Length, number and diameter of major canes; - Length and number of lateral shoots; - Diameter of lateral shoots. 2. Reproductive cycle: - Date of emergence of flower clusters; - Number of flower clusters/plant; - Number of flower/cluster; - Percentage of fruit set; - Harvest dates; - Yield of fruit for varieties. 3. Berry characteristics at harvest: - Weight of 20 berries; - Soluble solids percentage; - Berry color; - Scar size. The results show that the five rabbiteye blueberry varieties studies, adapt well to the growing conditions of Nuble. But, the Premier variety is the best yield
