The residual activity of alachlor on a variety of crops was studied in field trials following spring, autumn and winter applications in two soil types. Toxic effects were evident for longer periods when ambient temperatures after application were lower. For broadleaved crops, except carrot, toxicity of alachlor persisted longer in the medium than in the heavy soil, while the reverse was true for cereal crops
