Reducing dynamic forces in cable-disk conveyors

Cable-disk conveyors are widely used in agriculture, but their reliability in usage conditions is not sufficient. The experimental studies show, that the flexibility of cables of these conveyors causes oscillations in dynamic regimes. The resulting dynamic forces go several times over normal level. These dynamic forces must be reduced to decrease the number of breakdowns. In the present paper a device for this purpose is introduced. The direct measurement of forces in the cable is quite complicated. The experimental studies indicate that the forces, that tighten the spring of the tension device of the conveyor, are changing in accordance to the dynamic forces in the cable. As these forces in the spring can be easily measured by means of a strain gauge, cemented to the surface of the spring, this signal can be used for controlling the voltage of the electric motor. If the voltage is stepped down in accordance with the level of forces in spring, the dynamic forces in the cable of the conveyor will be reduced
