Field interaction of herbicides with insecticides in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum)

Lolas, P. | Galopoulos, A. (Tobacco Institute, Drama (Greece).)
In field experiments, for three years, the interaction of six tobacco herbicides-pebulate 10 G and 6E, isopropalin, pendimethalin, butam, trifluralin- and two insecticides-carbofuran, methomyl-was studied on growth (plant fresh weight, height and number of leaves), yield and chemical characterics of tobacco. None of herbicides used, alone or in combination with insecticide, affected significantly tobacco growth at 30 or 60 days after transplanting, or yield, height, number of leaves and chemical composition compared to the combinations. Plant fresh weight was a better indicator than plant height or number of leaves for herbicide effect on tobacco. Under adverse growth conditions, a synergistic interaction of certain tobacco herbicides with an insecticide may result.
