Contribution to protozoa infections in dogs and cats
1992
Varga, I.
Babesiosis is caused by Babesia canis and transmitted by Dermacentor reticulatus. Pointers and fox-terriers are more resistant to the pathogen than Dobermanns, Pekinseses and Yorkshire terriers. Berenil, a drug-containing diminazen proved to be the most effective against babesiosis. Since a single dosis did not induce side effects, the manufacturing company suggests fractional administration. Beside Oxopirvedine, Imizol can also be used. The occurrance of leishmaniasis, the other protozoal disease discussed in the paper, has not been reported in Hungary
