Terrestrial eutrophication in the forest
1992
Jakucs, P.
Following the eutrophication of waters, the quality of water changes, and as far as the human requirements are concerned, it worsens. On the basis of the terrestrial eutrophication, the situation is similar also in certain groups of the lifeless influence factors. According to the examinations carried out between 1984 and 1987, 40-60 o/o of the sessile oak stands perished and dried in standing position. Then, the following changes could be observed around the fallen and sound trees, the nutritive materials of the soil enriched, so that the N content was 13 times higher and the P content was 8 times higher than in the soil around the sound trees. At a height of one meter the leaf surface index (LAI) of the undergrowth doubled. The number of fungi and bacteria decreased to one third on the surface of the soil, which indicates the hindering of the decomposition processes in the shrub-storey. The eutrophication causes a quality deterioration of the forests, and also causes problems in the forestry enterprises. In natural-like forest associations it causes problems in the case when - for example - the big populations has overproliferated
