Experiment conducted in Tlekung Research Station for Horticulture during September 1987 to July 1988 aimed to study fluctuation population of Scirtothrips sp. (Thysanoptera : Thripidae) in relation to flushing rhythmic, temperature, and rainfall. Observation was done on 106 trees of Citrus sinensis cv. Punten 168 which had not been sprayed for the previous 18 months. Five sets of yellow saturn trap were set-up in the middle of tree canopy for thrips counts. Flush counts were done by using a square meter wood frame held against tree canopy. Four flushing periods were produced during a year, build up of thrips population only had a monocyclic pattern of occurence during a year, starting from the first week of November, reaching a peak in the second week of December and drastically dropping by the second week of January. The first rainfall influenced bud-break initiation-shoot formation followed by flowering stage and fruit formation. Temperature exceeding 29 degree C occured at this period would greatly stimulate build up of thrips population. November and December were considered as the critical period since the most susceptible development stages and build up of the thrips population occured simultaneously. Heavy rainfall after the main flushing period physically damaged thrips population
