Soil from three different land uses located in Maros, South Sulawesi was sampled and analized to evaluate its properties. The soil is predominantly silt loam of Brown Mediterranean (Alfisols) supporting plantation stands of Tusam (Pinus merkusii), Kemiri (Aleurites moluccana), and native shrubs on abandoned land. The most obvious different property was the highest phosphorus content under Kemiri stand, about five times greater than phosphorus contents of soils on the others two land uses. Potassium, Calsium, Magnesium, and Sodium contents also were highest in soils under the Kemiri stand. Soils under tree plantation had a higher organic matter content, but lower in moisture value compared with those of supporting native shrubs
