Rat control by using barn owl (Tyto alba) in oil palm plantation

The barn owls (Tyto alba) are good potential as rat predator and normally are found in the residential of traditional oil palm plantation. Buildings which were not occupied for a long time, are suitable places to the barn owl nest. But limited number of empty buildings was the main inhibitor on population growth of the barn owl, although the rats were the main fare found in oil palm plantation. Making artificial nests, i.e. the gupon, is a way to stimulate the development of population and the spreading of barn owl in oil palm plantation. This system is a good prospect on biological control of rat in oil palm plantation.
