Effects of sources and time of nitrogen application on the efficiency of nitrogen uptake in corn

To study the effects of source and time of nitrogen application on the efficiency of nitrogen uptake, the corn variety "H6" was planted in a randomized complete block arrangement with three replications. Source of nitrogen such as urea, SCU, and ammonium nitrate with lime (ANL) and time of application (four) were contested as the first and the second factors, respectively. Therefore, this study was analyzed as factorial experiment in RCB. Urea labelled with 15 N at 4,24 percent atomic excess was used to study the efficiency of nitrogen uptake. One third of nitrogen applied at 0, 30, and 45 days after planting (DAP) were more efficient than 2/3, 1, and 2/3 of nitrogen applied at planting, and 30 DAP, respectively. The maximum efficiency was 1/3 of nitrogen applied at 45 DAP (56 percent). The average of nitrogen uptake efficiency at harvesting (100 DAP) at 1+0+0, 2/3+1/3+0, 1/3+2/3+0, and 1/3+1/3+1/3 dosages were 16, 19, 26, and 48 percent, respectively. The efficiency of urea (6 kg grain/kg N) was significantly higher than SCU. Statistically, there was no difference between urea and ANL, however, urea tended to be higher than ANL by 4 kg grain/kg N.
